December Moodboard

There’s a lot to be swept up into this time of year.  I believe this hurriedness starts with September, the fleeting rush that summer is over and the autumn season is coming with great anticipation.  October fades in the moonlight. November is only a whisp of gray that carries a deep longing for the holidays of December.  Before December even begins it can feel like it is already over.

I have set out to capture my longings into moments and thoughtful steps forward through a moodboard.  I like to lay out my path in the snow and pour into dreaming of the month ahead.  Inspiration is what plans the future.  Curations of thoughts form a strategy for living life in the moment.

Each year that passes feels like I need to cram more and more into these short, dark, and magical days.  There are rivers of celebration to cross and mountain peaks of traditions to summit the tops of.  This moodboard is my guide.

I’m inspired by the homemade.  Objects that can adorn our spaces with a whimsical elegance. The darkness of these evenings lends an opportunity to craft.  I envision being lost in a project of making garlands and ornaments and stars.  Or I can get lost in baking, butter cookies and shortbread squares are treats I’ve suddenly become enamored with.  Who can I make a box for, I find myself thinking about.

I am a bit bored with the red and green or blue and white aesthetics established by the commercial nature of this month.  I’m looking at muted tones, warm browns, midnight blues, amber yellows, and, when necessary, a rich and deep red.

A Holiday Catalog

Below are some of the items that I’m recommending and working with this month. It being gifting season, I put together items that give me a sense of adventure, excitement for celebration, and tools to bring hospitality and warmth into my home.
